Art and culture in a multipolar world

Under the motto Post-West, the Impulse Festival focuses on a changed global political situation and invites an exchange on parallel transformation processes in East and West.

It is not only the latest developments in the USA and the growing influence of tech oligarchs on state action that make it difficult to refer to the Western community of values. Trust in representative democracy is also declining here in Germany. One reason for this is not least the violations of its own proclaimed values, such as European colonialism, but also the failures in the process of German reunification. What perspectives are opening up for art and culture in a polarised society, at a time when democracy, the rule of law and social cohesion are increasingly being called into question? How can they strengthen civic engagement and offer opportunities for the future?

We will discuss this at the start of the third and final festival weekend with Miriam Koch (Head of Department for Culture and Integration, Düsseldorf), Benjamin Gruner (Artistic Director of the Pochen Biennale, Programme Director enter - Junge Kulturregion Chemnitz) and Franziska Werner (Artistic Director Impulse Festival). Moderation: Kathrin Tiedemann (Artistic Director and Managing Director FFT Düsseldorf)
